Legacy Fund

The Government of Canada will contribute $10 million to create a Legacy Fund that will support projects that address healing, wellness, education, language, culture, and commemoration for Île-à-la-Crosse School Survivors and their families.

Who will manage the fund?

The Île-à-la-Crosse School Settlement Corporation will be created as a non-profit to manage the fund and support the Legacy Projects.

The Île-à-la-Crosse School Settlement Corporation will have 5 to 8 directors and a small staff. The directors will be guided by an advisory committee made up of Survivors or their family members.

The directors and advisory committee will manage and invest the Legacy Fund to support these projects. The Île-à-la-Crosse School Settlement Corporation will continue until all the money in the fund has been used, and then it will close.

What kind of projects will be approved for funding?

The Legacy Fund is meant to help Survivors and their families by supporting Legacy Projects that address healing, wellness, education, language, culture, and commemoration. The projects supported by the Legacy Fund do not replace government programs.

The advisory committee will help decide which projects should get funding.

Who can apply for funding?

People may apply to the Île-à-la-Crosse School Settlement Corporation to fund Legacy Projects. When possible, local groups in the Île-à-la-Crosse area will run the projects to benefit Survivors, their families, and communities that match the goals of the fund.
