This privacy notice outlines how we collect, use, disclose, and protect the personal information of individuals who submit claim forms, opt out forms or register for updates in connection with the Île-à-la-Crosse School Settlement. By submitting a claim form, opt out form or registering for updates, you consent to the use of your personal information as described below.

  • Phone number
  • Any additional information necessary to verify your opt out request (where applicable)
  • Technical, security, authentication, or communication records, where applicable, such as SMS delivery records, call records, login or verification records.

  • Subscription list via webform
  • Automatically, via Google Analytics, and other technology
  • Through approved communication tools, including Twilio, where applicable, to support SMS and phone authentication, or security-related communications

How we use your information

We use the information collected to:

  • Share information and notices regarding the Île-à-la-Crosse School Settlement
  • Respond to questions, requests, or communications
  • Verify opt out requests, where applicable
  • Support website security, authentication, and communication delivery
  • Maintain records as required by law; comply with legal and regulatory obligations

Authentication and Security Communications

We collect and use your mobile telephone number to send one-time passcodes (OTP), authentication codes, and other security-related text messages to verify your identity, facilitate account access, and help protect against fraud or unauthorized access.

These communications are sent solely for security and account authentication purposes and are not used for marketing or promotional communications.

These messages may be sent through approved communication service providers, including Twilio, where applicable. These providers may process your mobile telephone number, message delivery details, and related technical information only as needed to send authentication or security messages.

How we share your information

Any information provided, created, or obtained in the course of the Île-à-la-Crosse School Settlement, whether written or oral, will be kept confidential by the Parties, Class Counsel, the Administrator, and the Steering Committee, except as required to be disclosed by law, and will not be used for any purpose other than the implementation of the Île-à-la-Crosse School Settlement unless otherwise agreed by the Parties.

Except as may otherwise be agreed between the Parties, this includes discussions and all communications, whether written or oral, made in and surrounding the negotiations leading to the Île-à-la-Crosse School Settlement.

We may use service providers to help operate the settlement website and communications process. This may include service providers that support website hosting, email, security, authentication, analytics, CRM tools, and communication delivery. These service providers may process personal information only as needed to support the settlement process and security for this website.

Data security

We implement reasonable security measures to protect your personal information from unauthorized access, use, or disclosure. However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Retention of information

We retain personal information for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes outlined in this policy, comply with legal obligations, and resolve disputes. The Administrator will destroy all personal information and documentation in its possession on a schedule beginning no sooner than two years after completing the compensation payments, in accordance with the Data Disposition Protocol developed by the Parties in consultation with the Administrator and approved by the Court.

Google Analytics and cookies

A cookie is a small text file placed on your device by the websites that you visit. Cookies are then sent back to the website on each subsequent visit, or to another webpage that recognizes that cookie. We use cookies to make the website work, or to work more efficiently, understand website usage and support troubleshooting. Cookies help us gather information like your domain name, your internet service provider, your operating system, the date/time you visit, the pages you access, and the kinds of information you search for on this website. This information helps us provide more useful and relevant information and experiences.

Microsoft Clarity

We use Microsoft Clarity to understand how you use and interact with our website through behavioral metrics, heatmaps, and session replay to improve our services. Website usage data is captured using first and third-party cookies and other tracking technologies to determine the popularity of services and online activity. Additionally, we use this information for site optimization, fraud/security purposes, and advertising.

Other third-party applications

We collect and process social media comments/DMs (direct messages) and manage them via a CRM (customer relationship management) or third-party service.

Interaction with us on our social media channels via comments, reactions, replies or direct messages denotes consent to collection, storage and use of information in this way.
