Fraud Awareness
Fraud Prevention
Some survivors and their family members may be contacted by individuals claiming to represent the settlement and asking for personal information.
If someone asks you to provide your information to them directly or says they can make a decision on your claim, it may be fraudulent.
Be aware and don’t share
If the Administrator needs to verify the details on your claim form, they will contact you directly from a number that will appear as “ILEX CLASS ACTN” or “1-833-700-7458” on call display. This is a verified call from the Administrator. Call display name may vary based on carrier.
Please do not call this number directly. If you miss a call and need to contact the Administrator, call 1-833-700-7458.
If you’re unsure whether the request for your personal information is legitimate, or to report fraudulent activity, contact the Administrator.
You do not need to work with a lawyer to submit a claim. Class Counsel is available to support you for free. If you choose to work with a lawyer, their fees will not be reimbursed by the settlement or the governments of Canada or Saskatchewan. If you do choose to work with a lawyer, make sure they are a practicing lawyer in good standing in Canada.
Supports and resources are available at no cost to help you understand the claims process and to complete your claim.
If you think you have been contacted by a scammer, received communication related to a scam, or if you have been offered support with your claim for a fee, please report it to the Administrator.
Report fraud
Reporting fraud may help others
When reporting fraud, please include as much detail as you can. This will help us investigate the scam and warn other class members about it.
Helpful details include:
- How you received the communication (e.g., email, phone, text, website, social media)
- What type of information they asked for (e.g., contact details, financial information, etc.)
- The contact information of the sender and additional contact information provided in the communication (e.g., name, email address, phone number)
- A copy of the suspicious message or a summary of the call conversation with the potential scammer
If you believe you provided financial information to a scammer, please report the incident to your bank or credit union, your credit card company, and your local police.
You can also contact both of Canada’s national credit bureaus, Equifax Canada and TransUnion Canada , to order a free credit report and ask that a fraud alert be put on your file.
